Italian Lavata calf leather from Tuscany
Lavata is a washed calf leather known for its exceptionally soft and supple feel. Once the CUPIDO S has been fully assembled, it is washed, carefully dried and brushed by hand. This process creates natural creases and the distinctive vintage texture associated with Lavata leather. The hand-woven front highlights the character of the surface, while the smooth leather back makes the bag comfortable to wear against the body.
The calf leather comes directly from a traditional tannery in Tuscany. Its vegetable-tanning process is based entirely on natural ingredients. Instead of chromium and harsh chemicals, it uses plant-based tannins obtained from sources such as oak, chestnut and mimosa bark. The process is chemical-free and environmentally friendly, while helping to preserve the natural structure of the leather. The material is safe for allergy sufferers.
Subtle variations in colour, grain and surface texture are natural characteristics of the leather rather than imperfections. With use, the surface develops an individual patina, making every CUPIDO S slightly different.
Compact and well-organised interior
The main compartment is lined with durable cotton fabric and provides space for a large smartphone, purse, keys and a few smaller cosmetics. A separate zipped pocket keeps valuables secure, while two open slip pockets ensure that frequently used items remain organised and easy to reach.
The leather drawstring gathers the opening and forms the characteristic bucket-bag silhouette. An additional magnetic fastening closes the main compartment absolutely securely. Together, the two fastenings provide convenient access while helping to keep personal belongings protected.

Frequently asked questions
Is the CUPIDO S made from genuine leather?
Yes. The CUPIDO S is made from genuine Italian calf leather. Lavata refers to the special washing and finishing process used to treat the leather; it is not a synthetic material.
Is Lavata calf leather easy to clean?
Dust and light surface marks can usually be removed with a soft, dry cloth. For a more persistent mark, use a slightly damp cloth or a mild cleaner intended for smooth leather. Always test any cleaning or conditioning product on a small, inconspicuous area first.
Can the leather bucket bag be carried in the rain?
Brief exposure to light rain is generally not a problem if the bag is wiped dry promptly. Prolonged contact with water should be avoided. Allow damp leather to dry naturally at room temperature and do not place it near a radiator or use a hairdryer.
How should the CUPIDO S be stored to preserve its shape?
Store the bag in a dry, well-ventilated place. Fill it loosely with acid-free tissue paper to help retain its shape and place it inside a breathable fabric dust bag. Avoid plastic bags, direct sunlight and strong sources of heat.
Please check the measurements carefully, as the bag may appear larger or smaller in the photos than it is in real life.
Italian leather craftsmanship
Italian leather craftsmanship
Italian leather craftsmanship is synonymous with uncompromising quality, heritage skills passed down through generations, and passion woven into every stitch. The heart of this industry lies in Tuscany, where local tanneries have spent centuries perfecting the art of leather artisanry.
What sets Italian leather goods apart from mass production is the precision of the cuts, hand-finished edges, and the rigorous selection of top-tier hides (particularly premium calfskin and high-grade cowhide). Choosing an Italian-made piece means investing in a timeless design where heritage techniques flawlessly meet modern functionality.
What is washed leather (Pelle Lavata)?
What is washed leather (Pelle Lavata)?
Pelle Lavata (washed leather) is a premium material that undergoes a specialized treatment process after the bag has been fully assembled. The completed product is "washed" in traditional wooden tanning drums, carefully dried, and then meticulously brushed by hand.
This unique process gives the leather its distinctive, naturally aged vintage aesthetic. It ensures that no two pieces are exactly alike—the washing enhances the natural full-grain texture, gently shrinks the stitching to create soft, characteristic ripples, and leaves the bag incredibly supple and soft to the touch.
Vegetable tanning explained
Vegetable tanning explained
Vegetable tanning is the oldest, most traditional method of leather processing, relying entirely on organic ingredients. Instead of harsh chemicals and chromium, this artisan technique utilizes tannins—natural compounds extracted from the bark of trees such as oak, chestnut, and mimosa.
While this process is highly time-consuming, taking anywhere from several weeks to months, the results are unparalleled:
- Eco-Friendly: Sustainable, biodegradable, and completely safe for sensitive skin or allergy sufferers.
- Character & Longevity: Vegetable-tanned leather carries a rich, natural scent and features deep, nuanced tones. Over time, it develops a beautiful patina that darkens and matures, chronicling the bag's unique journey with you.
Care Instructions for Lavata Leather
Care Instructions for Lavata Leather
Lavata leather is an exclusive, piece-washed Italian full-grain leather that owes its exceptional suppleness and unique vintage texture to this traditional artisanal process. This exceptional treatment makes the material incredibly flexible, allowing it to grow even more beautiful over the years as it develops a noble, character-rich patina.
Daily Care
Dust and light dirt are best removed regularly using a soft, dry microfiber cloth. For tougher stains, a slightly dampened cloth used in combination with a mild leather cleaner specifically designed for smooth leather will suffice.
Intensive Care & Protection
To keep the leather supple, we recommend applying a thin layer of premium leather balsam based on beeswax and natural oils every 4 to 6 months. Allow the care product to absorb for a few moments, then gently buff the leather with a soft cloth. This will preserve its beautiful, matte-satin character.
Weatherproofing
Before first use and at regular intervals thereafter, apply a waterproofing spray or a protective cream for smooth leather. This effectively shields the material against moisture and dirt.
Please Avoid Absolutely:
- Prolonged contact with water (in case of wetness, allow the leather to dry immediately and gently in the open air).
- Direct sunlight and strong heat sources (radiators, hair dryers, etc.).
- Aggressive chemicals, solvents, or unsuitable furniture polishes.
Storage
Store your product in a dry, well-ventilated place. To maintain its shape, we recommend stuffing it with acid-free paper. It is best kept in its breathable cotton dust bag or the original box.
With regular, gentle care, your Lavata leather will preserve its incomparable beauty and unique softness for many years to come.

The Leather Colour Guide
The Leather Colour Guide
Choosing the right colour for a leather bag is the secret to creating a cohesive and sophisticated outfit that perfectly suits the occasion. The right shade can either subtly pull a look together or serve as a striking focal point, making a quiet statement about your personal style and attention to detail.
Black – Timeless Elegance and Business
- The Occasion: Business meetings, formal events, interviews, but also dinner dates, West End shows, and the daily city commute.
- The Outfit: Pairs best with a wardrobe in cool tones (greys, navy, classic white, or head-to-toe black). Ideal with tailored suits, sharp overcoats, or – for a casual twist – a leather biker jacket and jeans.
- The Style Rule: A black bag is your ultimate 'safe bet' – it instantly adds structure, gravitas, and professionalism to any look.
Cognac / Tan – Urban Casual and Boho Chic
- The Occasion: Daily errands, weekend getaways, casual coffee dates, or a 'smart casual' day at the office. A timeless staple for spring, summer, and autumn alike.
- The Outfit: Looks incredible against natural fabrics like linen, silk, and chunky knitwear. It loves earthy tones – khaki, beige, cream, olive – as well as classic indigo denim. A cognac backpack or shopper bag effortlessly breaks up a monochrome white or sand-coloured suit.
- The Style Rule: It injects warmth, lightness, and that coveted sense of luxury without trying too hard (effortless chic).
Dark Brown / Chocolate – The Noble Alternative to Black
- The Occasion: Business (a touch softer than black), autumnal country walks, or formal daytime appointments.
- The Outfit: Excellent with pieces in camel, forest green, burgundy, and mustard. It pairs beautifully with British classics like tweed, wool, and suede.
- The Style Rule: Exceptionally premium, it evokes a sense of heritage, heritage style, and traditional craftsmanship.
Beige / Taupe / Cream (Nude) – Lightness and Minimalism
- The Occasion: Spring and summer strolls, garden parties, dates, holidays, or warm-weather formal events (like a summer wedding).
- The Outfit: Perfect with light or pastel silhouettes, maxi dresses, breezy summer tailoring, and clean, minimalist total-white looks.
- The Style Rule: It brightens the silhouette, giving the entire outfit a fresh, airy, and elevated feel.
The Fast-Check: A Quick Styling Guide
- The Modern Golden Rule: Your bag absolutely does not have to match your shoes anymore! Instead, focus on matching the 'temperature' of the outfit (warm cognac with warm beiges, black with cool greys) or go for a deliberate contrast (e.g., a tan backpack with an all-black outfit).
- Mind the Hardware: Pay attention to the metal details (buckles, zips). Gold hardware complements warm jewelry and warm clothing tones best. Silver hardware, on the other hand, prefers a cooler colour palette.
- Slow Fashion & Sustainability. We believe that true elegance lies in longevity. Instead of fleeting trends, we focus on uncompromising quality and meticulous craftsmanship. This leather bag is so masterfully crafted that it will become a faithful companion for years to come. Rather than showing its age, it will beautifully mature, gaining character over time – a true investment piece to be enjoyed for a lifetime.
